Flights of several planes, static exhibition of aircraft, artistic presentations and the Smoke Squadron. These were some of the attractions that about 50,000 people from São José dos Campos (SP) and the Vale do Paraíba region were able to see at the Open Gates of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), which took place on October 20, 2018 .

Open Gates is a civic-social event whose purpose is to open the doors of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to the population for one day, enabling a closer relationship between the institution and society. “The event provides the opportunity to show the community all the professionalism of FAB and the work we have done over the years,” said the Head of the DCTA Administration Subdepartment, Brigadier of the Air José Aguinaldo de Moura.

Participants were also able to talk with the military, learn more about ways to join the FAB, learn a little about the Military Organizations that make up the structure of the DCTA and also interact with members of the Military Police and the Brazilian Army who were at the event. In addition, there were several simultaneous attractions throughout the day, such as a demonstration of the war dogs of the Security and Defense Squadron, launching of paratroopers and the staging of the Second World War group.

The Esquadrilha da Fumaça presented several high-performance acrobatics, bold and exclusive maneuvers, such as the inverted flight in formation, its specialty. “It's chilling and what they do in the sky is very impressive, we keep looking and admiring,” said physiotherapist Flaviana Mafra.

During the event, 1.5 tons of food and more than 500 books were collected. “The event provides the visiting public with an opportunity to be supportive. Social action reflects the spirit of helping others and we, as soldiers and citizens, feel part of this process”, concluded Social Assistant Lieutenant Bruna Silva.
