Embraer performs the RollOut and inaugurates a new era in the segment of jets with up to 130 seats
World leader in the manufacture of commercial jets up to 130 seats, Embraer gave a step in consolidating its position by introducing the E190-E2, the first jet of the second generation of the E-Jets family of commercial aircraft, whose maiden flight is scheduled for the second half of 2016, with entry into service scheduled for 2018. The ceremony was held at the Company's unit in São José dos Campos.
“Today we took another step towards the future of Embraer's commercial aviation with the worldwide introduction of our second generation E-Jets,” said Paulo Cesar Silva, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “I'm sure that from this event on, market interest in E2 will grow even more, increasing the commercial success of this program worldwide.”
With an investment of USD 1.7 billion, the E2 program was launched in June 2013 and reinforces Embraer's commitment to continuously investing in the commercial jet line and maintaining market leadership in the 70 to 130-seat segment. The jets will feature state-of-the-art, high-performance engines that, together with new aerodynamically advanced wings, fully fly-by-wire flight controls and advances in other systems, will result in significant improvements in fuel consumption, maintenance costs, emissions and external noise.
Since its launch, it has reached 640 orders, of which 267 are firm and 373 options and purchase rights, having among its customers airlines and leasing companies. Currently, the E-Jets family operates with approximately 70 customers in 50 countries, being the global leader in the segment up to 130 seats, with more than 50% market share.
“The public presentation held today marks the end of the assembly of the first E-Jet 190-E2 and paves the way for the beginning of the tests that will allow the realization of the first flight”, commented Luís Carlos Affonso, Embraer Vice President of Operations & COO Commercial Aviation. "We are very pleased to achieve this phase of the program meeting all the technical and economic objectives established at launch."
The E190-E2 is the first of four prototypes that will be used in the certification campaign, while another two aircraft will be involved in the E195-E2 campaign and three in the E175-E2 campaign, whose entry into service is scheduled, respectively, in 2019 and 2020.
The E190-E2 will have the same number of seats as the current E190, and can be configured with 97 seats in two classes of service, or 106 in a single class. In addition, there will be a significant increase of 800 kilometers in range with the capacity to cover distances of more than five thousand kilometers.
