We flew the Embraer E2
(TechLion) Profit Hunter
On an aviator's day, celebrated on October 23, IT'S MORE THAN FLYING had the pleasure of flying the largest commercial passenger plane built in Brazil. Read in detail.
In Brazil, October 23 is celebrated as “Aviator's Day” in honor of Santos Dumont, when he flew for the first time with his 14 Bis in Paris, at Campo de Bagatelle in 1906.
And to make this date more than special, precisely on this Aviator day, É MORE THAN FLYING had the pleasure and honor of being one of the presses to be invited by Embraer to fly on the E2 in its “Demo Tour 2019” in Brazil.
For those who follow the media and are a free subscriber to the news that are published on the blog (if you are not yet, click here), in September, É MORE THAN VOAR published about Embraer by delivering the first Embraer 195-E2 to its launch customer new version of e-jets produced in Brazil.
The Embraer E195-E2 is considered to date the largest commercial aircraft produced in Brazil. It is a “second version” of the predecessor of the “e-jet” aircraft family, which consists of models: E175, E190 and E195.
This new version of the "e-jets" brought improvements for pilots to manage the flight with displays of larger screens, but very familiar with the previous version, aerodynamic improvements with new wing shape, increase in fuel tank sessions, increase in length of fuselage, more efficient operating costs and longer maintenance intervals in the single-aisle jet category – 10,000 flight hours for basic checks, meaning savings for the operator. For passenger, more interior comfort with 2-2 seats a differential for competitive aircraft that has a seat in the middle of the “single aisle aircraft” category, larger internal luggage compartment, seats with USB sockets and sockets for recharging electronic devices and WiFi on board.
flying E2
Icon Aviation's hangar at Congonhas Airport was the meeting point, upon arriving at the site, guests had an excellent reception by the Icon Aviation team in an extremely comfortable environment for those exploring the executive aviation service, haulage services, FBO and charters.
With everyone already on site, we were moved to the aircraft in a van that the Icon Aviation team offers its customers. The beautiful Embraer 195-E2 operational license plate PR-ZIQ (Papa Romeo – Zulu India Quebec) was located on the other side of the airport – in a remote, former Avianca and Target hangar and right next to the passenger terminal.
Inside the van and traveling around the airport until arriving at the aircraft, it was already possible to see the vertical stabilizer (the rudder) of the aircraft.
The PR-ZIQ, is an aircraft intended to demonstrate the aircraft to customers who want to buy the E2, this same aircraft, we photographed on Saturday, October 19 in São José dos Campos, during the 2019 DCTA Open Gates, days before to receive the invitation for this demonstration flight.
The PR-ZIQ photographed in São José dos Campos, days before our flight.
The aircraft is named as the “techlion” – from the “Profit Hunter” series and particularly where the PR-ZIQ flies or any passenger who is in transit at any airport that this aircraft is present, the aircraft draws attention – the plane has a 'clothing' black and with details in gold in “allusion” to the electronic circuit conduction trails that we usually see when we come across a board of a computer or some electronic product. On its nose, the design has the shape of a lion, which represents the innovation and technology that Embraer has to offer!
At the place where TechLion was, we started to make the first external clicks and get to know the 360º details around the aircraft up close.
Upon entering the PR-ZIQ, we get to know the cockpit and the passenger cabin. The TechLion is configured with two passenger cabins with 12 seats in business class, with fully more spacious and comfortable seats and 104 seats in economy class.
As a welcome before starting the flight, Embraer flight attendants did not serve high-quality chocolates.
One hour later, it's time to fly and find out how the E2 is in flight, at 15:50 the PR-ZIQ lines up at the head of runway 17R (Uno Sete Direita) at Congonhas Airport, São Paulo and is immediately authorized to take off.
The aircraft is light, the commanders turn on the powers of the Pratt & Whitney PW1919G that equips the PR-ZIQ and with very little use of the Congonhas track, we immediately took to the skies. The flight's technical crew then performs the RNAV departure procedure (SID: PUKRA 2A) with transition into PUKRA. On ascending and blocking the NDB Diadema (DAD), then we start the left turn to fly heading heading 073 to the transition point.
The aircraft is comfortable and quiet, so soon we began to notice the efficiency of the innovative Techlion. After 21,000 feet, and upon reaching our PUKRA transition point, TechLion starts a small left turn to heading 052 heading VOR São José (VOR SCP), but before that, the aircraft is vectored to heading 137 of SCP. We then started to fly towards Caraguatatuba and Ilha Bela.
We are on a cruise at 27 thousand feet, the onboard service starts with the options of Coca or Guaraná and Peanuts drinks.
A smooth flight without turbulence, but with a layer of clouds and a visual landing of the sea and the ground, we arrived over Ilha Bela and now continue flying over the Air Space towards Embraer's Conditioned Area, close to the maritime regions of the cities of Santos to Peruibe. This Area is where Embraer's newly manufactured aircraft fly for flight tests and trials before being delivered to customers.
We went to meet the flight captains, where they explained to us what's new in the E2 cockpit compared to the E1, the flight is wonderful, but it's time to return to São Paulo. The commander starts the Approach to Congonhas and the PR-ZIQ starts the descent to Congonhas.
Congonhas is currently cloudy and our landing will be via runway 17R.
The descent procedure is smooth, and none without visual visibility, until we came across during a small point of the flight that there were no clouds, it already had the view of the Barueri region. Soon the aircraft starts to make a big turn to the right. For those who fly at Terminal São Paulo landing in Congonhas, there is the notion that we are flying very close to Pico do Jaraguá, as this is where aircraft landing Congonhas on runway 17L/R make the base curve to enter the final.
The LED lighting in the passenger cabin of the E2 changes color, giving a wonderful feeling like a night flight, thus reducing the jet-leg effect and due to the external environment being with little sunlight.
In the final for close landing, I see to my right the University City of the city of São Paulo, the crew activates the landing gear and soon we start to hear the friction noise of the wind hitting the lowered and locked landing gear. A little more miles flown, I see on my right the entire Marginal Pinheiros with traffic and the beautiful Jockey Club of São Paulo.
At around 5:02 pm, the Techlion Profit Hunter registration PR-ZIQ touches the ground on runway 17R at Guarulhos Airport.
Our flight ends with the disembarkation once again with the Icon Aviation team that took us to the hangar 1 point, where our meeting point was and there the guests were presented with some gifts about Icon and Embraer.
