ABEAR – Brazilian Association of Airline Companies held last Friday (24/11) in São Paulo, the award ceremony for the fifth edition of the ABEAR Journalism Award.

Presidents of the airlines Avianca, Azul, Gol and LATAM and also founders of ABEAR, as well as the associated Bombardier and TAP, were present to present the trophies to the winners.

The first edition took place in 2013, this year in its fifth edition, the award had a special category, Photojournalism, created to celebrate and value journalistic images referring to the aeronautical world.

With a beautiful and historic image,  photographer Herbert Monfre and founder of the channel É MAIS QUE VOAR was one of the winners in the photojournalism category when recording  the illustrious and applause moment of the newest Brazilian aircraft, the Embraer E2, during the rollout that took place in São José dos Campos at the headquarters of Embraer, the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world.

“This award 'landed' at an excellent moment in my life, I am very grateful and happy for ABEAR to recognize this work with the presence of the presidents of Brazilian airlines and of great names in aviation, meeting them here, it greatly values my work where I have dedicated myself to the maximum, managing to unite the useful and the pleasant being aviation and photography. I would never have thought that the chosen photo would be chosen out of so many other images of this day that I took at Embraer, because one image was more beautiful than the other. The space I was in to record the images was tiny, if I could either breathe or move, as the dispute with countless photographers and the press was huge that day, but thank God I got a good final result from the work developed and the answer is here today in this recognition and for the award”. Other winners in the photojournalism category were: Evilázio Moreira Bezerra Filho – O Povo – Fortaleza / CE, Marcos Rogério Zanutto do Carmo – Folha De Londrina / PR , Paulo Henrique de Souza Paiva – Diário De Pernambuco – Recife and Paulo Martins Pinto – Folha de S . Paul.

The highlight was the Campinas EPTV team, affiliated to Rede Globo, which won in two categories, in Innovation and Sustainability and winner of the 2017 ABEAR Grand Prize, with the special series “Plano de Voo” – advances in military aviation and civil.

Executives from the founding airlines were present to deliver the trophies to journalists Paulo Beraldo – Blog De Olho No Campo – winner in the Cargo category. Yohanna Pinheiro – Diário Do Nordeste – Fortaleza / CE – winner in the Competitiveness category. In Flight Experience, the winners were Queila Ariadne and Ana Paula Pedrosa, Rádio Super Notícia – Belo Horizonte/MG; in the Regional Aviation category, the winner was Fabio Steinberg, from Viagens S/A magazine.

In the Special Regional Award category, the winner was Adair Santos, from ABC Domingo Novo Hamburgo – Novo Hamburgo /RS

In the 2017 edition, for the first time, the Brazilian Airlines Association paid tribute to media outlets and personalities who, over the years, stood out for various initiatives showing society relevant aspects of air transport. Dimmi Amora, from the infra agency, Brasília, Gustavo Ribeiro- from jor aviation, Curitiba, Lito Souza and Mila Seidl – Aviões e Música, Thayana Alvarenga, from Melhores Destinos and Vinícius Casagrande, from Todos aboard, received the tribute.
